Lee Holdsworth has finished P24 and P21 at Round 9 of the Supercars Championship at the Ipswich SuperSprint after the car struggled to find pace on new tyres throughout the weekend.
Race 19 – Position 24
Lee Holdsworth started from P25 after a tough qualifying session for Race 19.
Holdsworth fought from the back of the pack throughout the 39 lap race but was only able to claim one position with the highly competitive field on track.
The #18 Car finished the race in P24, with the team eager to improve moving into Sunday’s 65 lap race.
Race 20 – Position 21
Holdsworth qualified P21 for Race 20. In similar fashion to Race 19 Qualifying, the Preston Hire Racing Team struggled to tame the rear of the car with new tyres.
There were limited positional movements from all cars throughout Race 20 and Holdsworth was only able to make up one position on his way to a P20 finish to wrap up the weekend for the Preston Hire Racing Team.
After post-race investigations, Holdsworth was given a 15-second penalty for contact made with De Silvestro in Turn 5 on Lap 1, demoting the #18 car to 21st at the conclusion of Race 20.
Holdsworth remains 21st in the Championship Standings.
“BIT OF A TOUGH WEEKEND HERE AT QUEENSLAND RACEWAY. IT’S A VERY DEMANDING CIRCUIT, TYRES WEAR OUT PRETTY QUICK AND THERE’S NOT A LOT OF PASSING. WHERE YOU QUALIFY IS WHERE YOU FINISH AT THIS PLACE. THAT’S WHERE WE HOPE TO IMPROVE IN SYDNEY COMING UP.” – CHARLIE SCHWERKOLT
Preston Hire Racing will now prepare for the Sydney SuperNight 300 at Sydney Motorsport Park, to be held on 3 – 4 August. All races to be broadcast LIVE on Fox Sports.
